Ask sleep science how long a nap should be and it gives at least four different answers, and defends every one of them: ten minutes, twenty-six minutes, thirty minutes, an hour or more. None of these numbers is wrong. Each comes from a real study asking a slightly different question, and the honest answer is that nap length is not a single setting to optimize. It's a dial with real tradeoffs on both ends, and the right position depends on what you're actually trying to fix.
What a nap is doing while you're in it
A nap is a shortened pass through the same architecture as a full night's sleep, just compressed and usually cut off before it finishes.
